I know you want to give this really cool gift but I'm telling you - diapers would be very much appreciated!! You could also maybe pay for in home help when the babies come - that would be cool. My daughter was 2 when I gave birth to twins (boy/girl) the hardest thing is the lack of sleep until the twins sleep through the night - if you can think of any gift that will help them in that area they would greatly appreciate it.

I like the name plaque idea a lot but I also love scrapbooking and would probably make a scrapbook or a baby's first calendar one in pink and one in blue of course so that they have a place to store all of those memories. The calendar is probably the easiest and you can buy the kits at a scrapbook store and make them with all types of neat papers and then all mom and dad have to do is put the sticker on the page and day it goes on.......this would be an asset as with twins they are going to be so busy they probably won't have time to fill out baby books in great detail.......Also, don't forget those big sisters.......they would love the I'm a big sister shirts to wear to the hospital to see their new siblings or something just for them......I have four kids all very close in age and I loved it when people remembered to make over them it really helped with jealousy issues as well.

Your time and attention. Maybe a few tickets to a movie while you offer to baby sit.
If you want to give the children gifts....how about name plaques that go above their cribs (and later their beds)? or lots of cute onesies that are not gender specific so she doesn't have to sort out everything....things that are in yellow or white or orange.... buy big as children grow fast. The Gap has the best baby clothes they are very expensive but last and last and last. Also they run very large so that she can use some clothes for a year or two. I did. I am the mom of twin girls. I always encouraged people to treat them differently.

Frozen casseroles ROCK. With four kids, two of them newborns, getting everybody fed will be a challenge. The book "Frozen Assets: how to cook for a day and eat for a month" by Deborah Taylor-Hough has some great, super easy and yummy ideas.
Laundry or maid service, if available in your area. Stain stick and coupons offering your assistance with dishes and clothes if not.
Coupons for your babysitting services with the older two, either before the twins arrive (for some couple time) or after (for baby time).

of course i would talk to mommy and daddy and see where they are and what they still need. My sister is preg with twins and she is beyond loaded with clothes, but the people u are talking about may not have anything so that may be their need. So talking gives a good idea. I do know for sure though that with twins especially u should buy diapers wipes diapers wipes diapers wipes diapers wipes. all stages!!! LOL buying that would be awesome and totally needed.

While I'm not the supreme authority on twins we did have two sets of boy/girl twins born in our extended family in 2006. The number one request of both was DIAPERS.

WOW, what a handful they are going to have. I have never had twins, but if I did, I would have to say the one thing that you would need the most is a double stroller so that you can put both of them in it, even though you don't use the stroller right away, it will be needed eventually.

Diapers, bigger size like 1 or 2. Baby wipes, shampoo, lotion, baby nail clippers, soft baby brush, The things that NO one can get enough of are endless. My BFF is having her 2nd baby in 07-07 and I will get her diapers and wipes and the things i named above. Plus something special just for the baby like a keepsake.

I would buy them matching outfits one blue and one pink of course and i would probably make them each a blanket of their own. I would also buy them diapers, maybe a double stroller, one of those medicine kits (you can find them at walmart) they are really nice, etc. There is so myuch out there now a days. Have fun choosing. Good Luck.
