We are going to fire the bloodsuckers, in the 08 election. A lot of Republican congressmen will be replaced by Democrats, hopefully enough to actually get something done in Congress.

You are correct in most of your thinking. Our current from of congress is vastly lacking. In the foundation of our nation this current system was the only possible system that would allow for a two party system. With the moden congress we have a great deal of waste. And there is the money that has eroded even the appearence of good conduct on the part of all congress. The sad fact is that it is time to do away with this from of government as it is at best a beast. You will see foolish people say we can reform it, Others will just want to punish the members. Sadly one apple will bring decay to all the apples in a barrel. This is congress in a nut shell. They all stink.
No member of congress should have any retirement period as they are elected officials and not employees of the government. This goes from all elected officials. Being elected is a privilage and not a right. Retirement from doing a part time elected position these people are stealing from the American Public.
No member of congress or the house should recieve anymore then 7 times the min. wage in pay. Today they recieve vastly more then that. How are the members of congress expected to control a nations spending when they are stealing money left and right.
There need to be in place a system of government reductions in the from if cuting government cost. Also before a single dollar is spent that money needs to be on account. Not projected.
You are correct we have problems the greatest problem is with thiefs in Washington, DC there needs to be some killings going on. I expect that will be coming in the next few years actually. It is like the two border guards who went to jail because they had tried to stop a illegal alien who had 750 pounds of pot from coming into the US. Can you believe that crap. Our government is full of crap. Crap gets to the bone of the problem. Wars have been started because of Governments doing stuff like that.
Frankly you have millions of people in this nation which are buying guns and bullets. There is a reason, There will be a day when people will take no more. You know the government is afraid of terrorism. They had better start taking care of bussiness here at home before poeple decide to do it for them.
This nation is right on the edge of the next civil war. And this one will be alot bigger then the last one was. The ball and musket has been replaced with the 60 cal. and the atom. It will be a mess. People work hard for there money. There is a point then people say what the hell and starting destorying the corruption in there mist. That is why you are seeing millions of people all over the US froming groups what will the end be. We shall all see it with our own eyes.

Sadly, most eligible voters don't know enough about the issues even to choose competent congressmen. Giving them direct vote would be a huge mistake.
Secondly, who would draft the laws for the people to vote on without Congress?
Third, before you run around passing laws, you need to be aware of existing laws and how the new law would impact them.
Fourth, Congress has other duties besides passing laws. Like writing the budget for example. Admittedly, recent congresses have done a miserable job in even recognizing what a "budget" is, and some years haven't even been able to get that done. The mass citizens would NEVER be able to draft and pass a budget.

That would be aweful.
The concept behind a representative government wasn't simply that it was logistically impossible for the entire population to vote on every issue. The founding fathers realized it would be impossible to properly inform the population. Most of the population isn't qualified to make important decisions about public policy. (not saying that all of the people in Washington are)
And how would we have top secret security briefings? How could we possibly educate ourselves on the 50 page bills being voted on EVERY DAY? How would we organize the population into committees and sub committees to filter out the hundreds of thousands of silly, ridiculous bills presented by the citizenry? For that matter, how would you handle the writing and presentation of the bills? Who are we going to use for legal counsel? When will we find the time to listen to hours of testimony from experts in dozens of fields in order to determine whether a bill is a good idea? How would we conduct orderly, organized debate?
These are just a few of the problems a pure democracy would cause. No no, the real solution is to get actively involved in elections and get real MEN voted into office who can hold civil, honest debate, not childish, divisive, politically oriented posturing and traitorous anti-military proposals.

There was a reason for the bicameral legislature. The house is the voice of the people and the senate is supposed to be the voice of reason. By forcing legislation to have to pass through two houses the thought was that radical laws would be prevented. The ideal is rarely reached but the system does have the benefit of making people think before they pass laws.

It's a lot more complicated than just deciding to fire our Representatives & Senators. And I'm actually really excited about the way Nancy Pelosi has come in and started to clean house.
I think all of our systems of government could use a good cleaning, though.

We are given that opportunity on a regular basis. It's called voting. More people should try it.
