I've been looking at these two laptops and after configuring them similarly I notice there is about a $1000 price difference between the two systems. I noticed the graphics was a little nicer on the dell (512MB - GeForce Go 7950GTX) as opposed to the HP (512MB - GeForce Go7600), but that doesn't seem to make up the price difference. Is there something (e.g., motherboard, cooling, etc) that makes the dell worth so much more?

I would be interested to know as well. On HP's website you can configure\customize the HP DV9000T to be everything the XPS is except for the graphics card (you can specify 512mb but only for the NVIDIA 7600 while the XPS is 7950). I am wondering if it is a motherboard difference or some other non-specified item (like CORSAIR Ram in the XPS but not in the HP).

Well, the first difference I notice is that the Dell has the Core Duo at 2.16Ghz and the HP has the Core 2 Duo at 2.0Ghz.

The Core 2 Duo is a 64bit processor with twice the cache memory of the 32bit Core Duo that is in the Dell. Even though the Dell's processor is clocked faster, the HP's processor will out perform it.

They both have 2 gigs of DDR2 ram.

The monitors are equal in size.

Same hard drive size.

The difference between the Go7950GTX and the Go7600 (Which is actually a 256Mb card, NOT 512Mb.) is going to be fairly big, but it most certainly does not justify a $1000 difference.

I would say that the fact that the Dell has the XPS moniker has much to do with the price difference.

But, the Dell does come with a longer limited warranty than HP.
