OK ive answered this question but I came back to see more answeres, most dragons would be killed by the KT event but all big creatures that survived would be aquatic (it said that in the site) now you could say that SOME lizards could be "little dragons' and there are lots of comparisons.
sadly some people just don't care but the fossils could have been destroyed by the Earth's movements. so we may never know for shour. but I believe.

Dragons were in the mythology long before the komodo dragon was discovered. They started as giant serpents and were given some of the characteristics of crocodiles. Different cultures developed dragons in different ways but they were all based on large snakes.

No red blood cells from dinosaurs have been found. That is also a myth created by Young Earth Creationists from a complete distortion of a scientific paper.

Evolution is true, there is no "if" about it. Dragons are not. If dragons had existed at the same time as humans and the mythology has them interacting, then the dragons would have evolved to about the same extent as humans have in the last few thousand years - not much. Evolution takes time.

Dragon mythology is really cool. Some paleontologists think that the idea of a dragon first came from looking at dinosaur bones. In fact, the Griffin, which was originally thought to inhabit Western Asia resembles Protoceratops, a small dinosaur from the Mongolia about 70 million years ago. We love large, deadly creatures, dinosaurs and dragons. Mythologically, dragons are extinct, but their modern persona is dinosaurs, I think. If dragons did exist, they are extinct now, and probably left no descendents that we know of.

People used to think the celeocanth (a fish) has been extinct for thousands of years, but it still lives on today.Scientists discover new species almost every week in the jungles of South America and Africa, along with a few other places, too.Who's to say that dragons never existed? Most legends and folklore are based on actual facts. In Africa, people have passed stories down through the centuries of a great elephant grave yard, because even though there were thousands of elephants, no one ever found the skeletons of the dead ones.Maybe we just haven't been looking in the right places for the proof we need of dragons.I have witnessed how easy it is for a specie to "evolve", with my own two eyes.At one location I hunt in the fall for deer, about 4 years ago, I seen a fox suirrel that had had it's tail cut off to about 3 inches some how.Now there are a bunch of squirrels in that section of woods with shorter than normal tails. My guess would be that "Stubby", as me and my hunting partners call him, had off spring, and passed on a trait for a shorter tail.If this is what happened, imagine how much a specie of animal, or plant could change in millions of years. If I had to guess as to what dragons evolved into, I would say they became smaller reptiles, like crocs or iguanas.Maybe some became frilled lizards, or even birds.Maybe some still swim in the depths of the ocean, and we just haven't re-discovered them yet.

Interesting question. The Discovery channel did a "What If" documentary on dragons - What if they exhisted, how did they evolve, what were the ancestor's of the mid-evil dragons like? etc.

They basically teamed up biologists with mythology scholars to come up with questions and answers about how dragons might have evolved, their basic biology, etc. I didn't see the whole program, so I don't know if they continued the evolutionary hypothesis to see what dragons might look like today, if they had ever existed. The link below has some info about the program, maybe they have it available for purchase on DVD.

Evolution does not state nor imply that dragons roamed the earth thousands of years ago.

Evolution simply maintains that the fossil record shows change over time. That's it.

P.S. I guess I misunderstood the question. If the question had been more clearly presented as a hypothetical I don't think I would have even answered at all.

Suppose dragons did exist, and through evolution became something else. Then they could be anything, they don't have to resemble dragons at all anymore. Birds are descendents from dinosaurs, but a Robbin looks nothing like a T-Rex.

it depends in what era dragons existed. Scientific evidence showed when dinosaurs were around, a meteor destroyed the majority of life on earth and anything over 50 pounds was killed, so dragons would have been eliminated from existance and unable to evolve.

Dragons are mythical creatures and they never existed. So really any answer to this question could be just as valid as the next. I suppose you could say lizards, because some of them look like little dragons.

dragons are a myth that derived from the komodo dragon. the komodo dragon has no wings and doesn't breathe fire but it is very deadly and the way humans exgagerrate it is easy to see how the fairy tale dragon appeared. the komodo dragon is a reptile which has been around for thousands, maybe millions of years.

im sorry but the way you wrote the question in the first place implied that you thought dragons existed, i have given a scientific answer, in the science section and thats what you should expect
