Check out this website on acne. He's got great info on different skin types and also talks about solutions for people of color, whose skin can react much differently do acne products than lighter skinned folks.

Do your best to keep your skin clear if you can, especially before you get headshots done and before auditions.

A comment about makeup...except for the simplest, flattest blemishes, we women are only fooling oursleves when we think no one knows there is a blemish under that make-up!!

If you get an audtion for a play, the acne may not matter as much.

Acne will matter hugely if you are auditioning for film or tv, especially commercials and even more so in this new era of HD video where professional makeup artists are AIRBRUSHING the makeup onto the actors because the brush strokes, from the old style application methods, can be seen.

They film those auditions and you will always be remembered as that guy/gal with the huge zit or horrible breakout. If you have a breakout before an audition, phone your agent and cancel. Let them know why you are cancelling.

I took an audition workshop once where we were shown footage of actual audtion tapes. A person showed up with horrible acne and something greasy and shiny smeared over the blemishes. They looked horrible that the commercail casting agent was reluctant to EVER call that person in again. The ick factor was huge.

Don't make a bad impression, especially when you are first starting out. When you are better established as a performer, producers will make more allowances for how you look in regards to the occasional breakout. Guys always have more leeway in how rough they look than women.

Good luck and check out the website!

It depends a lot on what they're looking for. If you're looking to model for Victoria's Secret, yeah, you'd better be having a good skin day.

For acting auditions, it's not absolutely necessary that your face be clear, but it wouldn't hurt to go in looking your best. Knowing how to apply foundation and concealer are basics of the acting trade.

That's especially true for a woman; go in wearing your street makeup, and being prepared to cover pimples is part of that. A man can get away with more skin issues.

You don't have to wipe all of the character off your face (especially if you're a man), but in auditions as in everything else you want to put your "best face forward". Show them how good you can look; they're prepared to use makeup to create other effects.

Some agencies might, others might not. Depends on how tough they are. The general rule is to go in 100% natural. For women, no makeup and hair pulled back to nape of neck. Men shouldn't over style their hair or over dress. But again, it depends on what you're auditioning for, the angency, etc.

Acting - probably not. They would be more interested in your talent.

Modeling - probably. Why spend time with you and make up when there are many others without that problem.

If it's not a very severe case, I'd think about applying some cosmetic cover up before going in. It's a temporary condition - hide it.

They won't tell you to leave but they will say use make up and try to get that cleared up. They can touch up pictures but they don't like to. Also ask them if there is anything they suggest to get rid of them....
