Peter ( wish i had known him,but I will tell you some of our tales together one day??) was the greatest of all time, sadly no longer with us.Peter kay(didn't he invent garlic bread)very good, but you need to be in your autumn years(experianced life and all that)Billy is scotish and is fantastic but has this horrible habit of breaking off into folk song without any warning.Well done so far TTFN

Actually, my friend Francoise. In French she tells some really wonderful stories. She also maintains that no French person ever uses the word 'raconteur' because in French it does not exist. It is simply 'conteur'. I also have a friend who lives in a remote bit of Morocco who tells (in French again) the longest, most complicated, humorous, detailed, clever stories I have ever heard. These two people will never be famous but you would be privileged to meet them.

Stephen Fry is a big fave of mine but I think Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly are quite the storytellers when they're on chat shows- must be something to do with timing skills honed for their stage work.

Charles Osgood from CBS News is high on my list. He has an unique perspective and you could listen to his voice for hours.
