A page file is a file on your hard drive that your computer uses as a buffer. (c:\pagefile.sys). Don't attempt to delete or move this file.

Your page file allows you to run multiple programs at once on a computer with limited memory. If you have a word processor open, and then you open your email program, Windows will likely put your word processor into the slower page file.

How big should your page file be? It should be 1.5x your RAM. In your case, it should be 384mb. On the otherhand, if you are running Windows XP, you should really have 1GB (or 1024MB) of RAM.

Well, think of the page file or virtual memory as just that. Virtual ram.

Basically what it is is a dedicated portion of your hard drive that is used just like RAM though it is much much slower.

It means what the other have posted along with one disclaimer:
Virtual memory is slow as molassas. It means you need to visit newegg.com and get some more RAM. It's cheap right now and it will help you not want to shoot your PC.
