Then why is it up to the people at the bottom of the pyramid, (consumers) to make sacrifices & pay more $?
If we're reaching the point of no return, you'd think the real polluters (big industry) would have to make drastic changes.
In order to prevent the planet from warming I'm supposed to by an energy efficient appliance on a limited budget, while Chevron makes 100 million a day in oil profits. Where's the logic in that?
"Global warming" is nothing more than a scare tactic to squeeze money from the people who can least afford it!
One more thing, I obviously want to hear your opinion, but insults are not apprecited. Thanks

With the Kyoto Accord, big industry IS being forced by their federal government to take steps to reduce their pollution contribution to Global Warming. The plan, however, is to phase in reduction measures, as drastic (overnight) measures would only result in massive layoffs and cut backs in employment.

In this global situation, we are ALL responsible.

First you must understand that there is no way to ever make a publicly owned company pay a penalty of any kind. Not really. If they pay out any money it increases the cost of doing business which increases the price of the products or services they produce. Who pays for that. You do.

Make the penalty too high and the company goes broke. Who gets hurt? The regular people who have their pensions and 401k money invested in that company. Also, with one less company around, there is less competition and the remaining companies can charge more. Who pays? You do.
