Profit of about 10% on gross sales is right in line with other big companies and considerably less than many. Profit is good, it helps the retirement funds of many workers vested in 401's and government pension plans. How have so many become so mis-educated when it comes to how the market works that they belive they or the government has the right to tax away any gains a company makes in a year? Would these same people think it allright to give Ford a check for the 12+ billion they lost this year?

39 billion dollars sounds like a lot, but a single oil platform costs over 500 million dollars. They work on a large scale. That's because you, me and everyone else uses a lot of petroleum every day and it's a given that oil should be cheap. You should be more concerned with the billions in oil subsidies that our government *gives* to oil companies.

Chevron- Venezuela- our next nuclear enemy
BP- destroying Alaska- our last retreat against immigration
They will also own the next generation of fuels. Whether it's solar, organic, etc. They will simply run everybody else out of business.

while your at it stand up against bottle water, milk, fingernail polish, insurance, banks, clothing, alcohol, tobacco, computer equipment, chemicals, medicine, tuition, rent, housing, food, basically any other consumer item because percentage wise they all made more profit on production than oil and gas companies. like one other said. economics is not always about the top profit number.

Sorry but I'm not going out of my way to work just to get gas from a different company and make them rich instead. I don't have that kind of time on my hands.

I agree that the oil companies need to stop. President Bush tried lifting taxes on big oil companies to get them to lower prices, but they are simply abusing it.
The REAL future isn't even in oil though. It's in alternative sources for feul. That's where our time and energy should be spent.

And do what ? exactly what can we do . Sit around and wait to die while they wait us out . They could go months without selling 50 million americans oil or gas and we would simply die .
