because he was one of the first out there to change music from how it was known. he started rock & roll. even his whole attitude. did u not know that ppl. were insulted wen he would shake his hips? that was like flashing some1 back then. it was a huuuge thing. he also paved the way for every other rock band now! hence the name "the KING!"

He was famous because he created an original type of music - the rock'n roll and a very unique style of dancing. He also was famous for his appearance on the scen always very elegant and full of life and dynamism. He died when he was in full glory, at 37 years old. That made him famous too.

Because a lot of people bought into the hype about him. In my book he was just another guy from Tupelo Mississippi who had a guitar. He never really impressed me.

Maybe becuase he fit the racial requirement of the south. Gospel and Rock and Roll sung by black artists at the time was "off limits" so when he came along, he made people comfortable.

Because he was sort of a comedian clown type singer. Personally I think it was because he had a funny name. You give him any other name and he would be obscure. Not enough has been said of this fact.
