It's ridiculous if you ask me.

Why don't we have one for every Nationality in the US?

Cinco De Mayo is one day! Great!

St. Patricks Day is one day! Great!

Black History Month! 28 days! Ridiculous! (I don't see them going out and helping the Community. I see them getting together, all Black people and BBQ'ing and stuff so what's the point? Shouldn't they be educating people as to what the hell we are supposed to be celebrating?

It extends into the first week of March. and the answer is it is too short. It was made because these things weren't being taught and it would've been lost forever. American history starts with Colombus then skips to 1774 when the Colonies got tired of King George III. This month paved the way for other heritage events like Hispanic Heritage Month ( mid September-October), Asia Weeks and Gay Day. The guy who wrote before me is off. And before somebody says why is there a BET, it's owned by Viacom! Every day should be every history.
Blacks have been here for over 400 years and only one month to mention the history is not enough.

If you would stop being so ignorant for a second and actual educate YOURSELF you would know that there is not just Cinco de Mayo, we too have our Hispanic Heritage Month that begins on September 15th.

And I also think that Black History month is too short. They did a lot and I love the way they display it.

Growing up in white suburbia, I was NEVER taught about George Wahington Carver or other black men and women who altered our nations history. Sure, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and slavery were touched on, but not in any depth. The fact that these people are black shouldn't matter. The fact that they made contributions to how we live today is what should matter.
And yes, I'm white...
