A group of elected officials that make the laws in the United States. There are two branches. The sentate and the House of representatives. The senate is comprised of 2 senators from each State. The House is comprised of many more representatives. The number is determined by the population of each given state. The so called majority rules branch. The senate was made to protect the rights of the minority voice by providing all states with an equal voice.
All legislation must start as a bill in the House and then if it's approved there can move on to the senate for approval. Once legislation is approved by both branches it becomes law.

The Constitution of the United States of America establised three (3) branches of government.

The Presidency is the Executive branch, the Supreme Court is the Judicial branch and CONGRESS IS THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH of the United States of America's government.

There are two (2) entities which compose Congress. The term for the two entities is bi-cameral.

The House of Representatives is composed of 435 members which are apportioned to the various States according to their populations.

The Senate is composed of 100 members which are apportioned to the various states equally.

Together, these 535 members of CONGRESS legislate the laws of the land and carry out other functions assigned to them by the Constitution such as declaring war, ratifying treaties and impeaching individuals of the government.

A bunch of bloodsuckers in Washinton DC who sell their votes to the higest bidders and vote their self a raise every year...back when congress was first created it was because most citizens in this country could not read and write. Now that we have the internet and everyone knows what happening all the time i say we eliminate Congress all together and let registered voters decide the issues with secure online polling. Wish i president i would push for it.

Congress is the opposite of progress. (couldn't resist)

It is the American version of the House of Commons, they vote laws in and basically run the country there along with the senate and the president.

Dictionary.com defines congress as:

The national legislative body of the U.S., consisting of the Senate, or upper house, and the House of Representatives, or lower house, as a continuous institution.
