I currently own a five foot Honduran milk snake, an eight foot male boa c. constrictor and a twelve foot female boa c. constrictor as well as a slew of other reptiles and mammals.

Snakes 'yawn' to replace their jaws. When they feed they will 'yawn' to reset their jaws after unhinging them. My boas and milk snake will 'yawn' on occasion. "yawning' is just something snakes do, it doesn't mean they will shed soon or that they have just eaten, it just means they are moving their jaws around, just like you do when you stretch in the morning.

the first guy is probably right, they stretch their jaws that was. You will see them do this after they eat too, it helps them realign their jaw. as for the smelling, that is what their tongue does and it has to go back into the sheath to get the particles to the organ (forgot the name of the organ).

The yawning is a stretching thing, maybe the shedding thing too.

Look inside her mouth for any slimy substances could be mouth rot or see if anything is lodged between her teeth. For certain answers go to the nearest vet

Very simple. Snakes smell through their mouths. He was smelling his surroundings. Probally because the place was new to him. My snake does it a lot. I hope that helps!

I would say it was probably stretching its jaws. Maybe it is getting ready to change skin too and is trying to loosen the old skin.
