It needs a new motherboard and a new pcmcia card. The computer repair store is charging me $271.00 and to be quite honest, I'd rather get a new laptop than pay that much, it's almost 50% the laptop price.

Oh, and that is $271.00 plus $50.00 I had to pay as a 'diagnostic fee' as if I already didn't know what was wrong with the computer.

Any recommendations?

$271 for a mobo sounds rights, as far as diagnostic fees are concerned, they did run a diagnostic and that's their price. All in all it's not too bad, but I recommend looking for a computer savvy friend next time you need repairs / diagnostics.

That is not an outlandish price. Though most places normally apply the cost of the diagnostics towards the cost to repair the unit.

Really, it is all up to you. Is it worth that money?
