It is now required to have one to travel there. I would like to go for my anniversary on March 8th. What all do I need to do and how long does it take?

The average processing time for a first-time US passport is 6-8 weeks. You can pay an additional $60 to have your passport expedited and receive it within 2 weeks. Check out the US Passport office's website for more detail.

It will take 4-6 weeks if and only if you:
A. Make sure you have STAMPED Birth Certificate
B. Valid drivers license or ID with your current address. Do not go and change it and have a temporary, they will decline you
C. Go to the post office near you that takes passport photos. Some places take the photos but dont know what is accepted (must be a certtain size an fit into a specific template issued by authorized photo centers.) Just go to a earby US Post Office that takes passport photos.
D.. US Post Office will also EXPEDITE your application and set up OVERNIGHT shipment there AND back.
E. Call the US Post Office and ask when they open for PASSPORTS and go early and stay away from Saturday mornings

The entire package will cost around $200 TOTAL

You better move fast and your going to have to a pay premium.

You need to supply a notarized copy of your birth certificate (it MUST have a raised seal).

You might need your social security card (I don't remember)

You need 2 copies of a passport photo (you can those at Walgreens, almost any camera store...)

You need to fill out the form for a new passport at the Post Office, pay your money and wait.

Generally speaking it take 8-12 weeks to get one. You can pay a premium to have expedited. In December I ordered one for my daughter, it took about 4 weeks. With the new rules the passport office might have a backlog?

With just 2 weeks to go, your probably out of luck.

I think it takes about 3 months... sorry. But if you go to your local post office they can give you all the information that you need to get your passport. You'll need your birth certificate as well as a picture (you can take there). The total cost for a passport is about 150...100 dollars. Good luck.

A passport usually takes about six weeks, but sometimes it is faster. However, you can ask for RUSH service, it will cut down to 2-3 weeks. Check will your local post office for forms, and get the pictures taken. The faster you turn in the faster it will come....
Happy Anniversary!

I don't know if you can make that. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks to get the passport. At least, that's what it took to get mine. Best of luck with that. Happy anniversary.

If you have proof of travel, tickets for example you can get it quick enough but you'll have to go to the passport office itself. Just have your photos ready, other ID and prob best to bring a bill or statement of some sort with your address on it. Should go soon and get it sorted and I'm sure you'll have it sorted before you go away at least.

Roughly 6-8 weeks. You can get it expedited if you prove there's an emergency and are willing to pay quite a bit more.

But the passports alone are around 90-100$ each.

Apply a.s.a.p. and pay extra to expedite it as there is a backlog now, due to the upcoming change in law. You don't have to have a passport to go to Mexico, just to get back into the U.S.
