A lot of his songs I completely understand...but sometimes, it's like "huh?". And then, when I finally do understand it's like I've had a major epiphany. lol, has anybody else felt like this when listening to Bob?

To give you an example, it took me a bit to understand everything he was saying in this song: http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/desolation.html

I don't think some of you are understanding what I'm saying. I don't mean that I can't tell what he's saying....but that I don't always understand what he saying....the meaning of it.

to me his lyrics have always been amazing, but with that many songs amazingly hard to ggrip at first. Obviously many of his songs like huricane, talkin john birch blues, etc.., tell stories and arnt hard to grip but there are also others that use metaphors that to me also dont register at first(ex: when the ship comes in or even my back pages took a little while to fully comprehend).. : )

I believe anyone is sadly mistaken to think Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins is cooler than Bob Dylan, that is a music blasphemy! Although Bob Dylan is one cool customer of Cool-Mart, I would have to go with Sam Cooke on this one. Not only did he have the most amazing voice ever (in fact I wish his voice could take form of a woman so I could make love with it and build it a warm loving house to raise a family in) it was also the way he died that was pretty awesome. He chased a hooker (supposedly) who stole his wallet out of his hotel room in just a bath robe and walked through the main lobby where an employee of the hotel shot him 3 times, in the chest, and then hit him with a broom until he died. That's an F U for all those stupid rock n' roll junkies who O.D or decide to shoot themselves. Wolfy- I really enjoy the Clash pic, by the way! Joe, Mick, Paul, and Topper would be in my Top 5.

I know what you mean. But as the greatest songwriter EVER, i don't mind looking up the lyrics. He has a book out, which I recommend, that has every lyric to every song released on an album up until like 2003 or something.

yeah, it happens to me too. but at least he has something to say not just 2 words and then only the chorus for the rest of the song, if u know what i mean.

Yes, he doesn't always sing distinctly.

Part of this was influenced by Woody Guthrie, whose wheezy drawl was actually symptomatic of Huntington's disease, of which he died (and for which Arlo is at risk, as it is a genetic neurological disorder).
