The study of anatomy does not change that drastically over time. If you just have to have one now and 39th is the only one you can find there will not be very many changes to 40th.

If you're not in medical school yet, there's no hurry. If you want to get a bit of a head start, by all means go ahead. You needn't use Gray's (it wasn't the preferred text in my school), and it needn't be the latest edition. Human anatomy really doesn't change much year-to-year. You'll have to relearn it all in medical school, anyway, so I don't see why you should spend a lot of time, effort and worry on it now.
