For an automatic it depends.
In the city it's one.
Tricky stuff, two.
On the highway, I only use my left thumb.
I rest my hand on my left thigh and it meets the wheel perfectly with my thumb.
Easy and relaxed.
For a stick shift it's usually one hand on the wheel, one on the sick, and one on the other stick.

Usually I drive one handed unless I am in a hurry. Then I use two hands and increase my speed. If I am taking my time and I am not in any and I want to take my time I will drive with my knee on the straightaways and use my hand in sharp turns.

I drive with my knee. I'll grab the wheel with one hand if I need to make a steep turn, and with both hands if I need to make a very steep turn.

Usually just one hand, except when the roads are slippery and/or snowy..........then I tense up and sit straight up in my seat with both hands on the wheel! (And for some odd reason, I turn off the radio during bad weather days.)

Usually one. Occasionally I just rest my thumb on the bottom of the wheel.
