If you wanted to try urban fantasies my top suggestions would be Moon Called and Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs about a coyote skinwalker living in a society like our own but where the fairies have "come out" to become accepted citizens.
You could also try the Weather Warden books by Rachel Caine which are excellent. These stories are about a select group of people with the ability to control the weather and they use djinns to help them. Ill Wind is the first book of the series.
I'm including the amazon links if you want to check them out.

There are way too many fantasy books coming out right now that are trying to become "the next big thing." Try not to draw on cliches from things like LotR or Harry Potter like many people do.

Go to your library and research the genre. Without specifically knowing what sort of information you are looking for, nobody is going to be able to help you.
