If "actress" is inappropriate, then shouldn't "princess" be inappropriate also as the male form of the word is "prince"? It just implies that the person acting is a woman. It shouldn't be the big deal that people (especially feminists) make it. Next thing you know, people will be saying "act-person".

Actress specifically means female actor. But actor can be used to describe a male or a female. I don't know why anyone would find the term offensive, but then I don't know why some women want to spell it womyn.

Why? It seems to me only English speaking people have made such complaints; does a female doctor from Germany find the word, "Tochterin" offensive? There are many languages that attach gender markers to words such as that. I speak English, I'm from America, and I say to all of those who do find such things offensive, "Get over it."

That's just plain stupid. English has a few words that still change suffix according to gender, and if women are offended merely because they are identified as such without any implication or judgement, then they are overly sensitive. Equal treatment is about equal treatment.
Those are the same women wearing low-cut shirts and then getting mad when people look.

For female performing artists, the terms have become essentially interchangeable. I know several women who refer to themselves as "actors," but I have to say that I've never met one who took offense at either.

Hollywood and news anchors use the words all the time. It's always been actors and actresses.
