Property rights and civil liberties are key! Hardly anyone will disagree with that, instead, many people don't understand what these items are. Property rights also extend to your body including the protection and justice for those violated such as rape, murder, theft, as well as any violation of another persons birth rights! The government should be involved in preserving these rights and should limit these rights being taken! Property rights should be backed by patents to increase technology and medicines that the private sector has shown to produce! With this comes the most thriving nations based on free/competitive markets that is the best way to over supply work and increase wages. If this happened in the rest of the world, poverty would be eradicated(except those who don't want to contribute to society) as well as bringing the strongest dollar and more items to trade with healthcare and every other good. Governments should stay out of money issues because they lead to inflation and long-run job loss! Governments should release its subsidized monopoly on education to voucher systems through private schools of the parents choice that enable the education every child deserves, not what the public schools force you to go to! Government is very necessary to allow economic growth, and very dangerous when trying to help!

National defense for the sake of sovereignty and civil order.
- Secure "public" goods and services
- Insure property rights
- Have indp. judicial and bank branches
- Sound currency
- Fundamental infrastucture and research
- Control waste and pollution
- Maintain fair competition
For the USA though, this means a lot more for ONE key reason:
We're the world hegemon. Plain and simple, we are the strongest country in the world. Maybe China will overtake us one day, maybe Europe is culturally superior, and maybe the middle east has the most valuable natural resource in existence, but America is THE STRONGEST country in the world today.
So as the strongest country, we not only have to be concerned about internal national issues, but have to help balance world stability because as its leader, we have the potential to harness the most potential from the rest of the world and should do so for both ours and the world's progress.
About domestic violence, that's technically speaking an externality that the federal government shouldn't get involved in AT ALL. Local governments should take care of it as they feel fit and should have their own policies individually since they understand what their own towns are like. Fact is some places are more secure than others; that's just how the world works. If some people want to live one way and others don't, then let the towns decide. The last thing you wanna do is FORCE them to compromise since everyone just gets upset for not getting what they wanted.

Government at all levels should be involved in those things it was given enumerated power to be involved in.
If there was no enumeration, explicit or implied, in the constitution or document that is the basis for that government - whether federal, state, county, city, township, etc - then the government has no legal authority to legislate, tax, or spend money on it.
As for domestic violence, yes, government has a level of involvement, but it should be very careful of that involvement - lest it be too invasive into the privacy of the family.

Just about the only thing the federal government should be involved with is national defense.
For state governments, only protection of life, liberty and property is justifiable.

it is ridiculous. in case you do not purely like the way somebody is doing enterprise, then do not supply THEM your enterprise. Do your learn. in case you do in comparison to large companies then close your BofA account, do not keep at WalMart, pay the better fees on the small mom and pa shops. don't be a hypocrite. the huge companies are large for a reason.

Taking care of America. We should be a humanitarian country that takes care of our population above all. The poor, the homeless, the sick, the mentally ill, the hungry, the undereducated or uneducated should not be going through this! Instead of cutting back funds to these programs, and spending it on big business and war, our politicians should get a shot in the as*s and prove what a great country this can be! Oh, and I also think there should be daily counseling and education in all prisons and jails. Nobody cared about those people before, that's why they're where they are, give them a chance now!
P.S. Excluding sex offenders. They can rot!

What a moron! The only reason for gvmt to exist is to protect the rights of the individual. What reason do you think that gvmt should protect anyone who initiates violence against others?
