I'm so sick of seeing people get a puppy or a dog on an impulse and then suddlenly realize a few weeks later that they arent ready for a pet, dont have time for it, or whatever other lame excuse they can come up with. I dont currently have a pet but about 2 weeks ago we found a stray running around with not collar or tags. We took her to the vet and she had a microchip. the owner can right out and said when contacted that he didnt want her anymore. Come on give me a break!!!!! This dog was a model dog, housebroken, commands, etc. We did the right thing and took it to get shots, etc at the vet and then had to find her a new home since we live in an apartment complex that doesnt allow pets. We screened people and thought we had found her a forever home just to find that the new owner hadnt asked her husband and so now the dog had to go. Not only is she tossing this dog to another home she's charging $200 adoption fee. We only charged $50 which as not eve close to what we spent.

Come on, would you get rid of your child cause they were to much work??? I feel so sorry for this dog. She has been tossed from shealter to owner to owner. She is such a good dog on top of it. This is why dogs bite and have behavior problems. The grow to not trust people it they are treatedthis way. 'on top of it we offered to take the dog back if they couldn't care for her. They said we could but only if we paid the $200

Sorry if I sound pissed off. I'm an animal lover that spent hundreds of dollars to keep this dog out of a shealter and have a nice life and this is what happens

people get pets not thinking about the responsibility some people even think the pets will care for themselves. Not many people actually read about the pets or ask pet advice on pet care. alot of people think that pets dont have feelings. Its sad. Some people buy pets for there kids then there child looses interest and before you know it the pet is sitting in a pound not having a clue what it did to deserve that. and then theres the people who just keep them outdoors chained up because they think thats what they are suppose to do. there are many reasons why and yes it is inexeptable.
People need to truly understand that pets take alot of work...training. expensive vet visits, lots of toys and attension its an ongoing job. domestic animals werent born in the wild so they dont know how to live in the wild you cant just throw them away. they require love and care just like anyone does or they become bitter weak nervous or sick. and the sad thing about this whole matter is alot of people just dont care they dont think its important they dont think it matters and thats disgusting.
a sad website for a good example which i volunteer for is
http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/
if you would like more imformation on this or anything else about pets i will try my best to help you just email me at kitty45342@yahoo.com
also to report a chained up dog or abused animal go to the website above you could save an innocent life. Thank you and Goodluck!!!

My daughter and I have been asking for a dog two years in a row. My husband, at first, did not want to get us one (ie: too much responsibilities, who's gonna watch the dog while we are on vacation, etc.). But finally he came around.
So we decided to go to our local animal shelter to look for one; save a dog's life. We found a 5mon. old lab that we fell in love with. We had a meet and greet with the dog and the volunteer. The volunteer told us that the previous owner had adopted the puppy from them with the puppy was 2mons. old. And they returned the dog because it was too much to take care of. The puppy was outside the family's home during that time.
We told the volunteer that we would love to give the puppy a new home with us. She informed us that there were two other families that were interested in the puppy. If we were chosen, she would give us a call that night or early the next morning to take the puppy home.
So the next morning, I called to see if we could take the puppy home. They told us that the puppy went to another home.
After that phone call, I was furious! How can the animal shelter be a judge of character when they screwed up the first time with that puppy? It was like a slap in the face that we were not good enough. I told my husband that it would be the last time I go to a shelter to find a pet.

Like the other posters have mentioned - people get puppies because they are cute, and little do they realize, they grow up to be dogs. People don't train their dogs, so when they aren't housebroken and start doing their business in their house, people want to get rid of them.
What irritates me beyond that is the number of neglect and abuse cases I see. Just yesterday we had a dog come in from animal control who had her choke collar embedded into her neck. We had to put her under anesthesia and literally cut the collar away and cauterize the wounds. She is left with a neck bandage and a wound that is about 3 inches wide that goes clear around her neck. Who would do this to a dog???? Are you kidding me???
Last May I rescued a male Boxer who was 45 lbs and infested with hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms. After many dewormings, love, and lots of good meals, he is now up to a healthy weight of 70 lbs. and a great dog. He knows basic commands, is great around other dogs, and is awesome on a leash. Why would his owners neglect him? Who knows. We live in a "me" society, and if a dog doesn't fit into some people's lives, then they just throw them away.
I'm not sure if this is an answer to your question or just venting, but I'm wholeheartedly with you here. People need to do their research on the breed of dog they get, and realize that they are not disposable. They will cost money for veterinary care and food, and will need training.

I totally agree with you. When I get a dog it is for life. I have two dogs one is 7 and the other is almost 4 and they are my other children (I also have two little boys). I would never even think about getting rid of my dogs but I see this all the time. People might get a dog and if it does one thing wrong then they get rid of it. This is a good question....I hope it hits home to some people and make them realize what they are doing is wrong.

I agree with you IF you cannot afford a pet (think of the future with vet cost, pet food emergencies etc..
its the same at Christmas & Easter where people get a baby chick or bunny then it gets big & they just get rid of it like it is the garbage.. I too am a huge anaimal lover I have 4 pets & they are mine till they expire or I do.. People DO NOT adopt if you don;t put any thought into what it takes to care for a pet...
animals NEED love too......

some people! i hate people that dont take the time to think about how a pet wil change their lives. i have 2 dogs and am thinking about bringing another one home(i work from home so this is a great time to add another dog) and as for them wanting 200 bucks from you to take the dog back tell them to stuff it and just take the dog back. good luck with all of this and i hope the dog gets a good home out of this.

i agree whole heartedly with you they deserve just as much love as children do anbd i cant beleive people are so ignorant and crule that treateing a animal this way feels good to them or they think it is the right thing to do pets dont deserve that i have never seen a bad animal only bad people and trainers they should be taken out and shot they dont derserve to live for putting a animal out on the streets
i hate kids they are bratty abd doi nothing good all they are going to do is grow up and be horrible to other people and if they dont then they are going to be the ones being picked on i dont think its fair atleast pets have enough courtesy to be nice and loving all te time and dont make fun they are better then people any day

I agree...it's too bad you can't have a pet where you live. You are being a responsible pet owner and you don't even own a pet! We have 2 kids, a dog, a parakeet, and a bunch of fish...I'm proud to say we take good care of them and we aren't trying to get rid of anybody!

people are idiots. My pet are my childern when I get a pet it is for life. If my pet gets sick I would spend as much as it takes to get them well, and would not just drop them off some where.
