I read the book last year and just recently saw the movie. The book was better in that it provided a deeper understanding of Burroughs' life. However that's not to say I didnt like the movie. I think maybe one thing that is being overlooked is that perhaps the intention was not to tell a story that is resolved in the end. That it was to tell a story of events that explain how and why this group of peole are so damaged. Maybe I am completely off but I enjoyed the movie as well as the book. Why didnt anyone else?

Personally, I haven't read the book and haven't seen the movie so I'm going to rent it having no expectations. But the previews looked good and it looks like the type of movie i'd enjoy so i hope it's good!

If you want to know why, read all of the critics reviews on Rottentomatoes.com...

Running with scissors is "an astounding waste of time, money and talent." It's "a smug, loathsome carnival geek show", it's "alternately grating and boring". It's "a string of bite-sized, anecdotal scenes strung together by FM radio hits of the 1970s". "Every beat of the picture has the ring of pushy inauthenticity, and despite all the outre eccentricities, a plodding lack of uniqueness." "One of the most grating, irritating movies you're likely to see all year...an avalanche of eccentricity without any redeeming comic or dramatic virtues."

Most people are disappointed by the movie version of a book they really loved. They have images in their head of how the characters look and if anything gets changed in the movie version they have a fit about it. Too high expectations, I guess.

Reviewers have their heads wedged firmly up their ***es. They want every movie to be a cinematic piece of fine art; they just don't get it that that's not what the average moviegoer wants to see.
