Hi, I have been trying to pick a name for my next baby.
My son is 2 years old and his name is Xavier Michael.
I am thinking of naming the next baby Christen Sammual. The problem is Christen keeps coming up as a girls name. Can it be used for a boy. My name is Christopher (i am a girl). My husbands name is Stephen. That is why I want to spell it CHRIS TEN. Is the name stupid for a boy. Also christen is a word that means to bless. Is the name Christen pronounced differently Chris-ten?

Try Christian instead. Christen will be looked at like Kristin. As much as we, as parents, like our childrens names, keep in mind, they have to deal with taunting and teasing from classmates.

I would pronounce Christen as either Kristin (which is my name) or Krissin (which is like the blessing ritual, and also the nickname my husband gave me, saying he's too lazy to pronounce the T in my name.) Unfortunately, both do sound very much like a girl's name - and to look at it, Christen does look like a creative spelling of Kristin.

Do you mean for it to be prounced like "krissin" or like "christian"? I adore the name Christian for a boy, and that spelling does make it look more masculine. I appreciate your reasons for wanting the name Christen, though, and if it's what YOU like best, then go for it anyway. Choosing a name that you love is ultimately what's most important - as long as you take into consideration the trouble your child might have with it as well.

Good luck!

If you want to name your boy Christen, then go for it! People name their babies the strangest things these days with the strangest spellings. But your name has reason and thought behind it and I wouldn't consider it strange at all. I actually read it as if it were Christian and didn't notice it could be pronounced Kristen until I got to the end and realized why your sources might be saying it's a girl name. But I've never seen a girl with the spelling Christen either. His name will be unique to him and you and your husband.

I've never heard of anyone being named "Christen". I think that's a really cute name, but he'll always have to explain that his name is "Christen, like a blessing" which may make people think he's being pretentious when he's oldler. Why not Christepher? Alot of letters, but it's similar and pronunciation wouldn't be a problem.

You can name your child whatever you like. Christopher isn't stupid for a girl, and Christen isn't stupid for a boy.

I've never met a female by that name; only males. I thought it was a male name, and I love your idea about Christen, and I think you should go with it.

I personally think Christian is a great name... for a grown man. I am a teacher's aide and had a boy I worked with 1:1, his name was Christian. He hated it... if anyone called him that he'd get upset and behave inappropriately... He insisted we call him CJ, which we did. It's a nice name, but I wouldn't burden a child with it.

I love that name! I don't see why it couldn't be used for a boy if your mother named you Christopher. I would use it for either sex. Nice name.
