PhDs in Math usually take between six and nine full year courses at the graduate level, take a written exam, an oral exam and then write & defend a dissertation.

The most advanced class I took was Topologial Dynamics. It was taught using the toold of algebra (which is unusual). When I realized that only about six people in the world knew anything about the field and that it had no practical applications, I decided that higher math wasn't really worth doing.

I'm guessing it would be a doctorate which would mean they have a pHD - that's the highest anyone can get i reckon. Hope this helps.
