Each search engine has a "suggest your website" area; you can use those. There are also many "search engine promotion" services you can pay to suggest your website to *all* search engines, like Google, Yahoo!, Lycos, Alta Vista, Ask, Ask Jeeves, and the untold others...if you don't want to try to keep track of all of 'em. To make your website very findable, you might try the pointers in Brett Tabke's "Search Engine Optimization" (SEO) template offered on pages 374-375 of Google Hacks.

am not sure about yahoo but google has somthing called page rank which checks the relavance of the information on your page. the best way to appear on google is to increase yo page rank.

not really sure.. but based on my experience, two things... (your website needs to be like really famous or most viewed or w.e) (another is to pay the search engine services - that would cost alot)

If you mean set it as your home page, do this:
Click "Tools", "Internet Options", and then in the homepage section type in the address you want your internet to open to and click "OK"
