It means being a werewolf, and is an ancient expression from Greek.
According to a Greek legend, a man so cursed had to live with the wolves in the shape of a wolf for 7 years, and after that he could return to human shape if he hadn't eaten human flesh or tasted human blood.

A Lycanthrope is a human turning into an animal, usually a wolf. There is usually a trigger, like the full moon or some such thing. There is no physical evidence that this has ever happened. there are a lot of scientific reasons that it cannot happen.
