A box pops up and says:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Debug Close

No matter what button I push (debug or close), internet explorer closes. It is happening more and more frequently. Can someone give me some idea of what the problem might be???

It's almost impossible to give you a definitive answer without knowing exactly which sites you are visiting, or what the error number etc its.

Couple of options:
1) Use a decent spyware sweeper - might be causing problems.
2) Re-install Internet Explorer (or 'fix' it)
3) Restore your system to an earlier time when you had no problem - you can do this in XP - it's possible that something you have installed recently may have corrupted IE - restoring to a point before installation of new programs may fix your problem!

The Internet explorer have a setting

If you go to Tools/Internet options. On the new screen go to security and press the "reset all zones to default level". This will disable the debug option of IE. This should take care of message.

Uninstall and reinstall of IE is difficult to say list. But try scanning for spy-ware and virus, that might help as some script on IE is causing the problem.

You may have some spyware that is causing problems. Try removing the spyware by using a program that can do this. There are some free ones out there, or you can go and buy one for a few dollars.

First, Internet Explorer is prone to crashing. It would be helpful to know what you were doing at that time (ie: what site were you visiting, was they any movie/music/flash on the page, etc).

Second, check for viruses and spyware. Here's a list of tools I recommend:

http://www.bitdfender.com - Online scanner/cleaner
http://www.superantispyware.com - VERY good anti-spyware propram.
http://www.safernetworking.com - Another good anti-spyware program.

Another thing to check would be the health of the hard drive. This is best handled by a technician.

Lastly, make sure Windows is up-to-date. Go to the Windows Update shortcut in your start menu.
