If ain't broke don't fix it ...as the saying goes.........when it stops doing the job you want it to then think about a change. My 6 year old PC is much slower than my new laptop, it still does the job I bought for and although it is slower than the new one when I look at the difference in time for doing things it amounts to just a couple seconds a minute and that is not a reason enough for me to trade up to a new one ---I can handle a five or ten minute per day delay on anything I do.

Keep it as long as it does everything you want it to do.
Most people buy new computers for no other reason than speed.
I have three computers and the oldest & slowest one is the one I use most.
The longer you keep your current computer the better deal you will get when and if you need a newer one, prices are dropping and all those that bought when they didn't need, wasted money.

Before you decided to spend any money try a new operating system.
My favourite is UBUNTU. It's free, reliable and up to date. Plus you get all of the programs you will ever need FREE!!!! If your computer has 256MB of RAM get a full version. If less get XUBUNTU.

If you have the money for it, get a new computer. Unless you have the money to spend then go ahead but its cheaper to buy a new computer especially with vista now. HOLY SH**, its expensive to buy that software but its way cheaper if the computer comes with it.

unless you absolutely have to, dont get a laptop. they cant be upgraded, and if your looking for something that will last a while you want a desktop. you should get a computer every few years depending on its upgradability.

Depends on your apps. Do you want to go out and buy new apps? If you just use your cpu to check your email then I would hang on to it.
