Unless you found where the first rat entered your house, you're likely to find his friends and family will use the same entry he did! Scout around and look for any gaps around pipes, doorways, floorboards, radiators, plumbing outlets, windows, etc, and make sure everything is sealed up tight. Then clean the whole house thoroughly (rat droppings also mean rat urine, which can carry transmittable disease), and check daily for any new droppings - you'll soon know if there are any more around.
Good luck.

If you have had no other sightings it's probably from the rat you caught the droppings could be months old I would not worry just keep your eyes open for fresh signs but you will probably not see any

I lived in a student house for a whlie and we had the little critters. We caught them in a humane trap using cheese and chocolate... caught 5 of them. They live in families like we do so you possibly have more than one. You have to let them go free at least 1 mile from your house. We were very clean, all girls! Dunno how it happened. Pick up all dropped food every crumb becuase it's all food to the littleones, never eat food in the bedroom. ( can be difficult with kids)

The old saying goes that for every one rat that you can see there are ten more that you can't...
you might need to take further action, i'm afraid...

you will have to get the council in, they will find where the rats are getting in to your house and block their access also put down poison that the rats can take back to there lair.
