I don"t know why we put up with it, it"s very strange.
If it was the French, there would be riots in the streets, and their Police would just stand by and watch it happen.
We have been "fleeced" for years and years and although we all moan and groan, we always just roll over and accept whatever the Government imposes.
Bring back the Poll Tax protesters, and lets see some action.

We are not "desperate" to be taxed and controlled
But if we are to ensure that our Government cares for the sick, the old, the needy (not the "lazy loafers who won't work" but those who find themselves genuinely down on their luck through no fault of their own and yes they do exist) then a certain amount of Government "control" is necessary.
Yes Americans don't have the same controls from their Government, but if you are poor over there you are fucked. You can't access healthcare when you or your family are sick, you can't access housing, or help, you are basically reduced to begging on the street.
At least all Brits have the right to be cared for when they are sick on the NHS no matter how rich or poor they are. Saving someone's life and making them well shouldn't be a matter of how much money they've got for God's sake!!! You can't put a price on human life!
This is something that sickens me about America - that they actually think they should PAY to be cared for when they are sick.
Whose life is more important? A rich child or a poor child's? All children have a right to medical care, education, a roof over their head, clothes on their backs and food in their bellies and how much money you have isn't an issue - or shouldn't be in a civillised society. Thats why we pay our taxes.
I'd NEVER want to live in America!!!

Because without government you'd have anarchy. Some silly people think that this is a great idea but with a lack of government only the most powerful would survive and even that is no guarantee. For a good example on this look at the recent history of Somalia which until recently had no visible government and the country was torn apart by warlords and local militias where once again the innocent suffered. You might not like Britain as it is today but it is a far sight better than any alternative.

The British want decent education, an NHS, social workers and protection for the weakest members of society.
So thats what we get - we just pay for it.

Absolutely correct, but it is the English people's fault. They like being subservient to someone, whether the queen or the government.
