People have known that smoking was bad for their health for over a century, if not longer. Just because it didn't say so on the pack of cigarettes didn't make it not true.

President Grant blamed his fatal disease on the cigars he smoked.

Cigarettes were known colloquially as "coffin nails" [or "coughin' nails"] before WW1.

So it is hardly true that people were unaware of the dangers, and it is dispicable to blame the tobacco companies for it.

Good, I don't think that it is okay to sue anyone when I made the decision to smoke. I know what the health risks are, so why would it be okay to sue the companies?
I think people do not want to take responsibity for their own actions.

By the way yes I do smoke... again my decision

Good that crap is out of hand, I'm a former smoker and no cigarette company ever forced me to smoke. I MADE MY OWN CHOICE ON THE SUBJECT. You do know that your question isn't really a question, just a comment.

i'm happy about that. these lawsuits are getting out of hand. suing cig companies for getting cancer, suing mcdonald's for being fat, suing a grocery store because your clumsy butt can't watch where you're going out in the parking lot... geeez, why don't we start suing the Church because God gave us an ugly face or a chimp's brain.

Cigarettes need to be taxed to the point where its $10 per pak.

That extra tax should go to healthcare.
