i think they will go 10-6, but that doesn't make the hire right.
can we all agree that the chargers are probably the most talented team in the nfl. due to the salery cap, they have a 3 to 5 year range to be that team, until players get too expensive and they have to let some of them go.
All the chargers needed this year is a coach without any doubts. a figurehead, if you will. someone that they can respect, because, honestly, i could coach the chargers. hb dive every play and they would still win.
norv turner is not the right guy. he lead a marginally successful offense last year with a probowl rb, how will they respect him in that way? he has a terrible past record, no dice there either.
i can't see the team respecting him, which might lead to a one-and-done

They are going to make the playoffs, probably with a 12-4 record. I think they did make a big mistake hiring Turner though. They hired a offensive guy, when they needed a defensive guy. They hired a guy who has been known not to be able to control or inspire his players. I still think they should have hired a young defensive minded guy like Mike Singletary. The one thing I havent been able to comprehend is Ron Rivera becoming a LB coach for the Chargers? I mean this is a guy who was competing for some of the head coaching jobs in the league and was already a D coordinator for the toughest defense in the league. I cant believe Rivera didnt at least get a coordinating job.

The Chargers have the talent HOWEVER, Turner had the talent with Washington a few years back also and never produced. His history has to be of great concern to San Diego fans. Marty wasn't even an option in the eyes of the owner, Marty had worn out his welcome, especially with losing 4 other coaches it was going to be a matter of rebuilding the coaching staff anyway so why not go all the way.

Norv is a great position coach and hasn't taken good head coaching positions in the past, hence one reason he has a horrible head coaching record, but I don't necessarily think that Norv will be what hurts the Chargers this year. You lose your head coach, defensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator and you're bound to suffer. As long as they don't change the playbook and gameplan much, they'll still be a successful team, but repeating a 14-2 record is asking to much with all of the changes. They have the talent on both sides of the ball so they'll still be very tough. My guess is 11-5.

Hiring Turner was a mistake, the man has proven he isn't head coach material; just look at his record. They are now, at best, a 10-6 team just because of them being in the AFC West. Unless AJ Smith knows that Turner won't do well and is just biding time until the 2008 coaching carousel unloads some great coaches to choose from next year and that will giver him the reason he needs to dump him after one season. It sounds stupid to think that way but isn't it just as stupid to have hired Turner in the first place??

Norv turner is a pretty good offensive coordinator. Last year he was good with Frank Gore. Now he has a chance to make some plays with Ladanian Tomlinson. But Marty had a really good record. It was a hard choice but I like there choice.

The Chargers were too good last year to be awful next season. Having said that, we all have to wonder what the hell A.J. Smith and the Chargers were thinking to let go of Marty.

Raider Fan here. With Norv as coach, the Chargers will be a pushover next season. Well, maybe that will convince more SD season ticket holders to sell their seats to more Raider fans from LA. Good Luck!

I think 14 and 2 the coach may have left but most of the players who did all the work are still there and they now have some playoff experience which will come in useful in 07
