Ok, let me just clear up that I know when you take a HPT you should always follow instructions, read the test within the time limit specified, etc.
I took a HPT last week. I was supposed to drop 4 drops of urine into the well. I dropped only 2. The test progressed slowly across the window. The test showed a positive, but faded within a few seconds. I KNOW THIS TEST IS INVALID.
I didn't consider this an evaporation line because it did have the right color (pink), wasn't white, dead space, etc.
My question is: What chemically/mechanically would cause a HPT to do this?

As the test stick absorbs the urine, it spreads through the stick. When the urine soaks the area where lines should appear, there is always a change in the color of the line, just because of the reaction of the test and the urine. This is not a positive test. It is not positive unless it changes again after the urine has soaked through the stick.

"sometimes a line will appear briefly as the dye in the test passes over the area where a positive result would show. This is not a positive result. "--

You should try retesting again with the Clear blue digital, it shows a pregnant or not pregnant result. No lines, which makes it easier to know for sure.

I have seen them show up a very faint positive result and then fade resulting in a neg. preg test but, if you still feel your preg. then retest.....
