Well, you certainly don't eat it.

You don't know how to use a guitar at all? You can't figure that out just by watching 3 seconds of a rock music video?

You don't 'use' a guitar, you play it.
Different notes and chords are played on the guitar by holding the strings (with your off-hand) with your fingers at certain points on the fretboard (the long neck part of the guitar) and strumming or picking the strings with the other hand.

There are two main types of guitar; acoustic and electric.
Acoustic guitars are usually made of wood and don't need to be plugged in to play. The sound is amplified through a hole below the strings... the hollow body resonates the sound generated from the strings being played.

Electric guitars are usually played connected to an amplifier, which gets the sound from the 'pickups' located on the body of the guitar under the strings. Electronic equipment attached to the guitar allows for a wider range of sounds and styles than an acoustic.

That's the short version. :-)
