I'm talking about both male and females. In fact, two of my friends met at the wedding of a 20-something because they were the oldest people there (except for the parents) and decided to talk.
Is it because they don't have any children but want to be around young people anyway? Or are they just afraid of becoming old and unhip? They're musicians and artists, btw.
I'm not the only one who wonders about this.

I'm a musician, so I work with younger people, too, especially because of the kind of music I do. I have a great teenage son. I have to admit, most of the other parents and I don't have much in common except for our kids. But I have friends of all ages and get different things from all of them.

if your question is about 2 people in particular being an artist and a musician it may well be that the energy that youth gives off acts as inspiration to the both of them or as you say may be just holding on to youth its self.

They want to live happy, not old. Just because they are not in their prime days doesn't mean that can't do the stuff they use( unless it will hurt them physically). A dogs never too old to learn a new trick.

they probably have young energy.
I'm 45 and can't stand to be around 20 year olds. The energy for me doesn't work.

i do like to hang around with 20's guys sometimes and girls too. Most of my friends are that kinda age. Its not b'coz of u wanna be young or looks young. Im around them coz of things that i do same as what they like to do. Most of my friends stop going to the gym and swimming. I still love to do it. I still love jogging, singing no matter what kinda song if im happy. And i love to listen to love song if im sad or moodly.
Another reason im with them coz of i wanna know how is my teenages children thinking their mind their opinion of things around them. Being with them is the easy way to deal with them.

They pick their friends based on character rather than age.
It is natural for a person with interest in music to have friends who also have interest in music, regardless of their age.

why do 20-something friends like to hang out with people in their 40's? The reasons people hang out with each other is endless. i would be care full to generalize, chances are you would be wrong.

maybe the other 40yr olds are not very interesting. theres nothing wrong with us 20 somethings. we wont bite or anything, and were not all complete idiots, just most of us.
