I can only think of one BUM, off-hand. My SUV gets 30 mpg.

SUV's are more detrimental to society because there are alot more of them around and they pollute the hell out of our air supply. And, they they add to the U.S dependency on oil and foreign oil. SUV's take up too much energy to keep up, deplete the world of resources, including clean air. And, they are unnecessary because the technology is there to make very efficient electric SUV's or SUV's that are hybrids. SUV's are a huge symptom of our late capitalist society's inefficiency. Whereas, bums are limited to a very small parts of the country. Bums add more to society because they recycle everything and many of them collect disgarded bottles, glass, cans, wood pallets, abandoned wood, clothes, and other recycables to trade for money.

SUV's are gas guzzling,carbon spewing hulks that are not just dangerous to the environment,but are usually driven by people incapable of driving a vehicle larger than a sedan,and who are menace to everyone around them when they get behind the wheel.
But I can see the logic of someone who doesn't care about the damage they inflict on everyone around them thinking that SUV's are better for society than the homeless,most of whom are that way for reasons out of their control.Why spend a dime trying to help them when you can spend hundreds a month on gas?
Not that I'm saying or suggesting that the asker is a person of that sort.

My SUV gets me to where I need to go when there is snow on the ground. I know many health care workers--people who are saving lives--who rely on their SUV's to get them to work in bad weather.
If there are any Bums out there who need a job, I have some snow & ice that needs removed. Make yourself as useful as an SUV; you already breathe out enough cigarette smoke and alcohol fumes into the air.

Many of the bums you refer to are veterans of Vietnam and other wars that suffer from mental illness due to the things they experienced over there.
