If you look at one of these flies do they have a more triangular rear than a house fly, with a hint of yellow on it? If so they are CLUSTER FLIES they have overwintered in your loft etc and are now coming out of torpor. They are harmless, unless you are an earthworm- the larval stage lives as a parasitic maggot inside the worm. You may get another swarm in the autumn around the time of the first frost as the next generation comes inside to overwinter. Some pest control companies will try to rip you off by selling an unnecessary spray or smoke treatment. A can of good old fashioned fly spray will do the job just as well.
If they are house flies, you have either a dead animal in the house- blue and green bottles, or a drainage problem- lesser house fly.

Having lived on a farm all my life, I can tell you the only sure fire way to get flies out of the house is with fly spray. You can spend days hunting them down with a fly swatter and you can thin them out but it seems like they are like the 2 headed monster. When you kill one suddenly there are 2 more. Even the spray only lasts for a while till someone goes in or out the door. One thing that seems to help keep them out is putting water in a clear plastic bag and hang that on or by the door. I have heard a few explanations about why that works, I don't know, but it seems to cut down on how many come inside. Keeping your grass cut short helps run them off. They roost in the grass at night. That will also help with mosquitos if you have them because they roost in the grass during the day. Keep your garbage cans covered tightly and don't leave food scraps laying around. If they don't get anything to eat, they will go elsewhere.

Flies are attracted to the scent of rotting meat; if you have a cat, then check that it hasn't left some mouse or bird to crawl under somewhere in the house and die. They're coming from somewhere to find something. As a temporary measure fly spray does work but it is toxic to fish and not good for human health used long term.

Could be cluster flies, as they like to come inside when it gets cold, then when there is a warm day they all wake up....below is a link to more information.
