On the top floor of my home, I have a window air conditioner. A few months ago when the weather turned cold, I noticed a squirrel began hanging around, but that was about it. Now he literally has collected tons of twigs, paper, tissues, and other junk which covers the entire space underneath my air conditioner on the window sill.

He has also began to leave little black droppings on TOP of the air conditioner(what nerve huh?) and around that twiggy nest thingy. Each time I pull back the curtains to make noises and run him off, he sits there looking at me, or comes up to the window as if he expects me to feed him or something which I've NEVER done.

If I slide back my window screen and physically remove and clean the area, will the squirrel attack if he sees me? What can I do to get rid of it? It's really starting to get on my nerve, and my window sill looks disgusting. Thanks

First off... don't use moth balls. They are a major poison and pollutant to the environment and stray animals/pets. Does anyone even give a flying duck about poisoning the environment with that crap?!

Second, chase the squirrel off and tear out the nest, clean up the poo and wash the area down really good with water to get the scent markers off (from the pee and poo). You need to fill up the area that the squirrel is wanting to use so it cannot. Go to your home improvement store and buy some scrap, cheap, lumber and construct something out of that, or stuff the area with a mess of barb wire. They should have Pigeon Spikes that you can use, that looks like a bed of wicked nails, that you can fill the space with. Use several stacked onto one another and tie those into the space.

Third, get some wolf or coyote pee from your local greenhouse and dribble that around the area. This is natural predator scent deterrent and is ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE. The combination of ripping it's nest out (after scaring it away because you don't want to get bit), scenting the area with predator scent, and filling the space it wants with something it cannot move or deal with should prove to be the best, environmentally sound, solution.

If all that still does not deter the critter, consider trapping the animal and relocating it approx 50 or more miles away from your property. If he happens to come back, you may need to contact professional animal control.

First is remove the nest, especially before there are babies in it--spring is coming. Try to do it when s/he is not home, and wear a hat and gloves for protection. Cut a section of window screen or fine chicken wire and lightly nail that in place to keep it away after that. FInd a way to add a tub of mothballs to the area inside the screen.

If you are still worried about the animal, aim a hose at the nest, that should be safe enough to drive it away long enough for you to knock it down.

I have squirrel problems as well. I have chosen to trap them with a live animal trap. Havaheart traps work great. Over the past year I have had to catch about 10 because my neighborhood is infested with them. I really didn't mind them until they moved into my roof. Animal Control will charge you $400 to get rid of it. Way to much in my opinion. These traps are about $25 and they work over and over again. Good luck
