I do not believe that a draft is a possibility anytime soon. If the politicians passed it then those politicians will not be elected again. They know this. Some have played with legislation for the draft to try to end the war in Iraq but it blew up in their faces. Even with a draft, there is no way that the US can fight every single country that the US has problems with.
In the arena of Iran, it is not just the US that wants to prevent the nuclear buildup. There are other countries around the world that want to prevent Iran from having a nuclear capability. These countries would also play a part in any military activity in the country.
Another matter some people do not think about when it comes to a draft is the drain on the economy. These people will now be in the military. They will not be out doing work in the US. They will not be helping businesses make money and they will not be earning the higher paychecks from those businesses to make the purchases that keep the economy afloat. Also, the US has to pay a salary to these drafted soldiers and the US has to pay to house and train these soldiers. That means higher taxes. Once again, a strain on the economy. The US does not have the spirit it did back in WWII to overcome this. In that war almost everyone in the US was behind the war effort. This time around I would say half the population is against the war. The US would never be able to pull together to keep the factories and businesses going.
Yet another argument I have heard is that if we had the draft, it makes it easier for a government to start a war. If a president knew that there were thousands of extra soldiers (with a potential of maybe a million) then it is easier to jump into a conflict. Sometimes a conflict can be handled thru diplomatic means.
Some simple arguments agains the draft are these.
1. A violation of human rights. It is forcing a person to take part in killing without that person's consent. The draft is a violation of many ideas of basic rights. Such as the right to be free.
2. It is slavery. Pure and simple. You are taking people and forcing them to do work that they do not want to do. If they refuse then they would be imprisoned. If someone calls it treason then it is possible they could be executed for their "crime".
3. The military works on discipline. If you force people into the military then that discipline breaks down. You have many people objecting to the draft in the military then they will not work with the military. You will have people resisting. This will not help fight a war.
4. You are sacrificing quality of the military for quantity. This is not a good trade off. It is hard to properly train draftees, especially if they do not want to be trained.
A draft is not a good idea in our present situation. In fact, it is almost never a good idea. It takes extreme circumstances to justify a draft.

Anybody who favors and supports this war should enlist in the army and be fighting in Iraq. Anyone who agrees with the war, but would not enlist to fight/kill is both a hippocrite and a pus*y.
Support the troops! Bring them home! If America attacks Iran, it will be the beginning of the end. Many Americans are still completely fooled and blind to how dangerous this administration is.

I am in support of the war but against the draft because I believe a volunteer Army works best.
And no, I'm not in the military because I am physically unable to serve. Just because you don't serve in the military doesn't prohibit you from talking about it. That's like saying you can't criticize congress if you never been elected to it.

I am not "pro war" but I do find it necessary at times.
I don't favor the draft. The volunteer army has proven superior.

As it is today some soldiers are crying about having to go to war and they enlisted on their own. I would hate to see what would happen if there was a draft and people were forced to go.

The generals haven't asked for a draft. We need to enlarge our armed forces, but there is no reason to think that it can't be done under the present system. We should have started the expansion on 9/12/01.
