Why does our school system neglect to teach the truth?

The United States never was and never intended to be democracy. We are a Republic!
“Every step…towards…democracy is an advance towards destruction…Liberty has never yet lasted long in a democracy; nor has it ever ended in anything better than despotism.” (1801)
Fisher Ames (1758-1808; Congressman from Massachusetts)
Most Americans believe we live in a Democracy. But they are 100% wrong. The word democracy was used very little until the onset of World War I. President Wilson began to use the word in many of his slogans and speeches. The use of the word continue to increase, and now that is all anyone hears today. Most Americans have been mislead to believe we are a democracy.
WRONG!
In Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto, democracy is one of the pillars of communism. Just before the listing of the 10 Communist Planks, he references democracy as a way to win control of the people. Basically democracy allows the voters to vote

vote themselves into enslavement.
We have seen above that the first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class to win the battle of democracy.
The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state, i.e., of the proletariat organized as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible.

The Soldiers Training Manual, TM2000-25: 120-121, U.S. War Department dated November 30, 1928 gives the following definitions:
REPUBLIC: Authority is derived throughout with election by the people of public officials to represent them. Attitude for property is respect for laws and individual rights. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences. Avoids the

dangerous extremes of either tyranny or mobocracy.
DEMOCRACY: A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of direct expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate. Results in demagogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy."
Shortly after the ‘bank holiday’ in the 1930’s, hush-hush orders from the White House suddenly demanded that all copies of Training Manual 2000-25 be withdrawn from the Government Printing Office and the Army posts, to be suppressed and destroyed without explanation. Sadly, on the orders of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration, this outstanding Training Manual was “withdrawn” and destroyed. Question: Why did the FDR administration destroy this outstanding training manual?
In conclusion, if we are in another country to help establish democracy, we are there for the wrong reasons. Our country is not a democracy. We are a republic because of our unique U.S.

Constitution that spells out the rules of government. Changes in the law does not come easy as it does in other ‘democratic’ countries when the leaders cannot get their way and are able to quickly call a vote to make changes that their citizens have no control over.

It is embarrassing that some of you candidly say that u can't read a question as looooong as this one. What, haven't anyone of u ever read a complete book?? Or a newspaper?? Or a comic book??

So for all u ppl that can't read more than 2 sentences at a time, think of this: How many times has President Bush stated that we are in Iraq to promote a DEMOCRACY? And to promote DEMOCRACY in the middle east?? Isn't this the reason we are there? (I mean, we are not there looking for Osama or weapons of mass. destruction)

As Ben Franklin said, what we've got is a Republic, "if you can keep it." Whether or not we can keep it is becoming increasingly sketchy. As someone mentioned, real democracy is only in practice in some New England towns and in Switzerland. Switzerland is worth studying. The New England town thing, well, that may be true or anecdotal, but it certainly seems that true democracy can only work on a rather small scale. We have --or at least had-- a good system. We just need to wrest it back from the corporate interests that control it now.

Technically a democracy means direct control by the people and that does not happen in the US except in a few villages and towns in New England, with the town meetings at which all local issues are decided. Other than that, it was a form practiced in ancient Greece. The Republican form of government (not referring to the Party) has worked well. Its just an issue of semantics. Voting for your representatives is technically a democratic process altho a representative "democracy" is a contradiction in terms.

I didn't read the whole thing. It's way too text heavy. The USA is not a democracy, It's a republic. A true democracy would have everyone represent themselves, instead of reps for entire states and whatnot.

I'm not reading that whole question.

The United States is a Republic because our government is run by representatives we elect instead of directly by everyone.

Geeze! You don't honestly think anyone's going to read your rant, except maybe to have a good laugh, do you?

Right, technically, the USA is NOT a democracy; it's a republic. Who doesn't know that? You're point is......? Next!

Alexander Hamilton, among other wealthy right-wingers, didn't want "common" people to have too much power. For a long time, not only were nonwhite people and women forbidden to vote, but white men who didn't own real estate weren't allowed to vote.

Also, the electoral college system prevents the popular vote from making much of a difference at election time.

I think it sucks, myself. Why should a bunch of rich old men who don't even know me get to decide who runs my country?

Man, I'm not going to read all that. It's a representative democracy or republic.

I think it's more accurate to call this an aristocracy. We have elected representatives, but they are all members of the elite.
