Norv Turner has compiled a 58-82-1 record as a head coach. Marty Schottenheimer has a record of 200 - 126 - 1. Hmmm...I'm thinking I would have stuck with Marty. And I'm betting A.J. Smith is receiving "Thank You!" cards from the rest of the AFC West about now!

Norv Turner has never had success as a head coach in the NFL. However, he has not been given the chance with the kind of team the Chargers are now. He inherits a team that went 14-2 in the regular season and was only a couple steps away from going to the Super Bowl. If he doesn't get there next year, the Chargers will have their next head coach already to take over in Rivera. He was at the top of many teams lists this year as candidate for the head coaching job (Pittsburgh, Dallas, Oakland, San Diego). I really don't think Turner will be the one to motivate the Chargers, but it doesn't hurt to have Rivera there to turn things over to when he comes crashing down.

I agree with anyone that says, 'wait and see'.
As a head coach, Norv Turner has NOT HAD a winning team. His claim to fame is as offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl winning Cowboys that were head coached by Jimmy Johnson.
And Rivera as linebacker coach is TRULY a wait and see.
What everyone seems to fail to realize is that what was thought to be the Bears defensive strength was ACTUALLY their Achilles’ Heal.
Am I the only one that saw how EVERYONE that had offensive success against the Bears ATTACKED the linebackers?
That's why Indy's offense was successful against the Bears D in the Super Bowl.
Rhodes and Addai, collectively, had 190 yds rushing; a lot of it from running right up the middle. A third of Addai's receiving yards he got beating the OLB.
The Chargers search for a head coach was like a beauty pageant that Turner won because he won the congeniality portion of the pageant and Rivera is first runner up that is probably gonna be San Diego's future defensive coordinator if he gets lucky with the linebacker corp.
Both of them have an excellent opportunity to prove themselves.
With the talent that San Diego has on both sides of the ball, plus the addition of new personnel, especially in the secondary, they may get the blessing of pulling it all together and going to Super Bowl XLII.

does nicely in the playoffs? you are able to not say a set does nicely in the playoffs till they are in super bowls. norv turner is an fool. any group that makes the playoffs with an 8-7 checklist is only organic fortunate. as a count of actuality, as much as i hate the Patriots, I FELT snubbed while they are 11-5 checklist wasn't sturdy adequate. Norv Turner is a crack-pot. He does not know the thank you to regulate his gamers, and does not discourage their disrespectful habit.

I don't think that they did. I agree with you in that rivera should have been hc and norv turner oc. I am a Denver fan and it should be another good division rivalry, but anyway i think they should have stuck with marty.

hell NO that isnt an improvement......as bad as Marty may have been at times Norv is WORSE..... he's a hell of a cordinator but far from a leader of men.

the chargers have enough talent to still be a top notch team but they WONT WIN A TITLE WITH NORV.
