Does anyone know what the details on common-law marriage are for Wyoming?

I heard that it's when 2 people, man and woman, live together for a certain period of time, sharing income. My boyfriend and I have been living together for 7 months now.

My insurance starts at the beginning of next month and I was wondering if there was any way I could get him covered with myself.

Wyoming is NOT one of the states that recognizes "common law" marriage. The complete list for those that do is at the end of this answer.

The term "common law" means different things in different areas; you'd have to dig up the exact wording in a given state's ruling. Also, the benefits and issues associated with the status is not the same from one region to another.

About the only thing that's "common" to them all is the hassle required to end one ... basically, divorce, same as for any other type of marriage. And, of course, that the marriage has to be between a male and a female.

A lot of it depends on what state you live in. Some states recognize it when the couple has lived together for a certain number of years (7 years is a common time frame). My state, Virginia, does not recognize common law marriage at all.

Before you do this, think about it, because there is no such thing as a common law divorce. In other words, by doing that, you will be really married!
