why were the americans caught up in the red scare of the 1920's????

I thought it was the 50's. Anyway I'd also like to know. Its seems very UNAmerican the "commie" trials.

If you're talking about the 'red scare' of the 1920's it's because Russia had just gone communist. Lenin was preaching world wide revolution against all capitalist countries.

Also Russia had withdrew its support from WWI, that left a bad feeling in the west.
