I have a Netgear 8.11 G router. I am running an unsecured network at my home through Comcast. I've changed the user name and password on my address page but then I am locked out of my own network. I have to plug directly into the LAN to get connected into wireless by changing the user names back back to the default which leaves me unsecured again.
Also, how can I know if someone is using my network?
Could this be related to my other problem of having to reset my cable modem practically every day?

Whenever you reset your cable modem with Comcast or RoadRunner your IP address will change. Your previous setting will not recognize the new IP address so nothing will work.
You need to secure your router with encryption so your neighbors or others can use your wireless signal. Your Netgear installation disk will walk you through the process.
Why do you have to reset your cable modem every day? Contact Comcast and get a replacement.

you need to setup wep, mac address filtering, and turn off your broadcasting. WEP will encrypt the data traveling back and forth from your computer, MAC filtering allows you to enter a unique number that is only associated to your network card(every network card has one like a serial #)and then the router only lets the computers in whos mac address is in the list, and then another thing to do is turn off the broadcasting that way no one in the neighborhood sees your access point, its hidden but your computer will work fine.
