My daughter is 12 years old and has not started her menstral cycle yet. She has been shaving her legs since she was 8 and she has dark hair above her upper lip. She also has dark hair in numerous other areas. We've just noticed a couple of dark hairs under her chin. Does this sound like hiritisum or will this calm down after she starts her period. Please help!!!!!

I have no idea what the first response was about -

You don't say what her general coloring is - for example, if she (and you or her father) are darker skinned, or have dark hair, it is more likely that the dark hair growth is normal. And at puberty, it is very common for girls to get darker, more prominent hair.

Hirsuitism, by definition, is excessive sexual hair growth that appears in the pattern of male hair growth. It can be caused by hormone imbalances and certain medications. If you're really worried, or you think this might affect your daughter negatively in a social/psychological way, I would definitely recommend taking her to the doctor. I doubt it will calm down with initiation of her period.

she could be butch. don't dare discourage her and be a punk parent. if she is a bull or butch, you better respect it. she may be your daughter, but she is female, therefore, she calles the rules and it is your obligation to pamper and cater to her!
