its tough to say depending on windows, materials, insulation of the house, etc...but a rough size for a 1500 SQ ft House might be a 2.5 ton System.

It depends on the house layout plus insulation, windows, doors, number of occupants (we all give off body heat), single story or two story house.
A 2 Ton A/C unit can normally handle around 1300 square feet and a 2 1/2 ton should handle about 1800 or so.
to determine the correct size, a "Heat/Cooling Analysis should be performed by a qualified individual form a HVAC company.
If the A/c unit is undersized it will run and run but not cool the house and occupants properly. If over-sized it will short cycle and not do the job.
