Irish TV - why is Channel 6 called Channel 6? Where's "channel 5"?

Ok we have RTE 1, RTE 2, TV 3, TG4 .....and Channel 6
What happened to 5?

City Channel is available on cable as standard. It came out before Channel 6, hence the name.

channel 5 is in the uk but has international status with five us and five life

look for it on cable or sky
