I rent a home and my dryer runs off of it's own breaker. Everytime I run my dryer the breaker blows and when this happens there is an awful strange smell coming from my breaker box. Our dryer was broke for a while and we never smelled that particular smell. But now that it's working again, the smell is back and the breaker blows. I have voiced my concerns to my landlord but with no resolve. I have 3 small children. Does anyone know if this is dangerous or what steps I should take.

Hard to say from where I sit. It not sound good. The Breaker could need replaced or a wire is loose. If, it a burnt wire smell it may be a wire overheating before the breaker throw. Could be it need a larger wire as in 12 ga., but, it hard to know as I not there. It can be a Fire Hazard! That my opinion. If, you were ready to move, you could report this to the local Fire Department or Proper City Office and they condemn the house until it repaired, but, like I say, you better be ready to move. They will close the house down.

this is very dangerous, sounds like you have a 110 for this dryer outlet and you need a 220...get an electrician to change it over before you use it again. as for the landlord he may just tell you to buy a 110 dryer. he may not be required to adapt it for you
don't use the dryer again before an electrician has looked at it.. when a breaker trips its telling you something is wrong.... do not try to fix this yourself
