I'm an avid reader of novels and have never before had any trouble understanding one. Is it supposed to be like this? And will things improve. At the moment I want my money back.

Le Carre gets longer and longer, and worse and worse, since people said he was a great writer. Stick to the Spy Who Came in From the Cold - by page 200 you've practically finished it.

So don't we at that stage. Le Carré is a master at telling spy stories and the story always develops very slowly and only via biases. So be patient.
If you can understanding Le Carré you can try "Spy Story" and other books by Len Deighton!

read it. its very confusing but in the end it all comes together. the only reason i finished it was I had nothing else to read. Not really a bad story tho
